There is a new addon available that actually imports ALL the herb/ore spawn points. That’s pretty cool. But the COOLEST feature is that the addon can then create the shortest possible route you can follow to visit each spawn point. This will helpgatherers(Miners/Herbalists) really reduce their farm time. You can fly around the shortest circuit trail that lets you hit the spawn points you want to hit.

Move over ‘Gatherer Addon’…. This mod which will do more than replace Gatherer. It reduces the time it takes to find ore/herbs.
Here’s what to do to install it:

1. Go to http://www.wowace.com and get the WoWAce Auto Updater. http://www.wowace.com/wiki/WowAceUpdater

2. Once you’ve installed it, you can choose which Ace addons you want. Choose and install:
CartographerCartographer DataCartographer Herbalism or Cartographer Mining or both, depending on your ProfessionsCartographer Routes

3. Once in the game, you should see a small ‘Screw’ icon on your minimap. Click that and choose Cartographer from the list of addons (other Ace addons will appear if you have them installed).

4. Configure Herbalism/Mining to display how you want it. You’ll know it’s working correctly if you open your map and see a ton of ore/herb symbols all over the place. (Unless you’re in a city, obviously….then just chose a zone that should.)

5. Add and configure Routes from the Routes screen. I walk through that below. Before you do, I recommend you change the global setting of the Route size to the minimum (I think it’s 10). The default is like 35 and puts quite a thick line on your map that can actually block you from seeing the spawn points.

Routes:

1. From the configuration screen (which you get from clicking the Screw icon), choose Routes, Add.

2. Give your route a name. Start with something like “Netherstorm Ore All”.

3. Choose the zone of the map the route applies to. (ie: Netherstorm for the example)

4. Click the Data dropdown, and then check on all that you want to find. For now, let’s start with all of them (Fel Iron, Adamantite, Rich Adamantite, Khorium). If you can see your map, you’ll see that it basically draws a line from every spawn point to every other spawn point. Not very helpful. That’s why the next step is so important.

5. Optimize! I choose the ‘Extra Optimized’ option, and optimize in the fore-ground. (doing it in the background lets you keep playing WoW while it calculates the route…I just prefer to let it get the route done faster.)

You should now have the most efficient (shortest) route that will circuit the map and hit every spawn point along the way!
Now you can just fly along this route (you don’t have to stick exactly to it), and you will fly over every point on a given zone.

My dad is actually 71 years old and play along with me and my 9 year old son. Though I found in this post that my dad acutally isn’t the only grand dad that is addicted to WoW:

Hello Guenter, when were you born and where?

On the 29th October 1926 in Breslau, Schlesien (today Wroclaw Poland)

You are thus 80 years old and become a proud 81 in few days. That is indeed a fantastic age. One can hardly believe it, but you actually play World OF Warcraft. How did you get into it?

By my grandchild Andre “Petzo” Heinecke, he showed me how to play WoW and me then also got me in his guild.

Which class do you play? Which level is your character?

I play a hunter, with whom I stand briefly before level 70, not least owing to my grandchild and the very helpful people of my guild. I enjoy it much, getting to contact so many helpful and open young humans. It is mad, how people help one another, no matter how old or young the fellow players are. I play horde? Yes, since my grandchild plays on the horde side, the alliance was never applicable for me.

Do you make the Quests priority or do spend time in instances with “younger” colleagues?

Yes, I do primarily Quests, since instances or groups of more than three participants for me make the play too stressful.

You also use team speak, that is class! Do you sometimes picked on because you sound yourself a little “older” than the rest of the quite recent community?

No, because most know my age and find it to cool that I play.

If your character reached level 70, do you plan to then stop or to begin perhaps another “Twink”?

How long I will continue to play, depends on how long I can more or less play as “solo”. I have begun other classes, however, I wanted to only concentrate on the hunter.

What do the people surrounding you (Wife, family, friends) think about your hobby? Do they accept you as an inspired computer player?

My daughters find it mad that I play, they are proud on their father. In particular I play strategy and structure games; keeps me mentally completely and beautifully fit. The granddaughters find also very the cool, thus the family find that mad, with the exception of my wife, who’s understanding has worn off somewhat, however, she tolerates me in the meanwhile.

You play on a Role-Play server. What do you say as an experienced and wise human about conversational language on the Realms? Nevertheless to a large extent, it is very childlike behaviour in Chat – does that bother you, how the players go around with one another?

Experienced am I, but in no case wise. If I chat with players, who are not in our guild, I must state again and again that conversational language is correct and very polite. Nettikette (Ettikette in the net) is a matter of course, I find here.

Will you play also the coming expansion “Wrath Of the Lich King”?

I don’t yet have an opinion, since I have not seen any information about it.

Can you tell us briefly, what constituted a large part of your life? Which occupation did you have? Were you always an inspired computer player?

This kind play arose at the end of the 80′s… you were 60 then….I play different games. I began with “the settlers” and played other similar games. Vocationally I had already in the 60′s of the last century (sounds good!) to do with EDP. Therefore perhaps the fascination for bits and bytes. With my enthusiasm for the possibilities of the computers I passed on to my daughter. Perhaps I also passed a little onto my grandchild, who is also a computer Freak.

Blizzard Entertainment has released the patch noted for the upcoming World of Warcraft v2.3. In these patch notes there are several changes which will greatly affect nearly every player. Some of the more notable changes announced include:

• Reduced leveling time from levels 20 to 60! This will be a much welcome change for those of you just starting out or wanting to run up an alt. The decrease in leveling time will be achieved by reducing the overall experience needed between 20 and 60 and by increasing the experience gained from quests from levels 30 to 60.
• 1/3 of the plus to healing bonus on healing gear will now apply to spell damage as well. This will allow holy priest and paladins to take part in the offensive portion of a fight when there healing capabilities are not needed. This should also reduce the requirement of having to keep damage gear and well as healing gear on characters that are spec’d specifically for healing.
• Vendor discounts will not apply to all reputation levels about neutral. Friendly 5%, Honored 10%, Revered 15% and Exalted will provide a 20% discount. This should help reduce the costs for late game repairs, ammo, and equipment.
• New daily quests are being added that will randomly target one of the various battlegrounds. This should help spark some renewed interest in fighting in the various battleground.
• Alterac valley is getting a major overhaul. Many changes are being made to the battleground to attempt to make it less of a “speed-run” for the opposing general. The various towers and objective throughout the map should now play a key roll in the ability to win a given match.
• Engineers will now be able to create a new, mechanical flying mount!
• All of the old-world dungeons (non-expansion pack) have had their loot tables adjusted to provide much better loot. Hopefully this will also add to the ease of leveling new characters in addition to making the gap between old-world and expansion pack item stats a little less drastic (IMO, it would be nice to have your level 60 epics still be worth wearing at level 62
• A new, neutral town has been added to Dustwallow Marsh. Hopefully, this will smooth out the gap in available quests for characters in their mid 40′s.
• A new, level 70, 10 man dungeon is being added to the Ghostlands called Zul’Aman
