Many readers have been asking in The Queue if an account that is upgraded to Mists of Pandaria will be required for participating in pet battles. Cory Stockton, aka Mumper, answered that question recently: No!
MumperThe feature will go live with the box release date of MoP. It will be available to all players, MoP is not required.
It does look like the pet battles system will not be included in pre-expansion patch 5.0, however. We don’t know the release date of Mists yet, unfortunately, so it looks like you have plenty of time to stockpile companions before being able to battle them. [via Warcraft Pets]
