Looking to figure out what the best leveling spec for warlock is? This guide will discuss the three trees and their viability for leveling.
Affliction is more of less universally considered the best leveling spec for warlock at low levels, and debatably at high levels too. The tree is both mana AND health efficient; starting at a low level, you’ll find that you simply don’t have downtime as an affliction lock. Drain tanking is your best bet after you get the anti-knockback talent; just toss on your dots and Drain the mob to death. This gets much easier once you have Siphon Life; in fact, everything after that is pretty much just icing on the cake. You want to focus on mana efficiency and improved drain talents for Affliction leveling.
Demonology is the second most popular leveling spec; at higher levels, it might just be the best leveling spec for warlock. But it’s only viable once you get the Felguard to tank for you! Once you do, though, Demonology is a very powerful spec. For the most part, you’ll want to focus on talents that strengthen your Felguard, aiming to make it nearly unkillable and highly damaging.
The last talent tree to discuss is of course Destruction. Destruction is fun, but mana efficiency and health issues both plague it until the highest levels. With the gear to support it, though, Destruction’s incredibly burst damage allows for VERY quick kills while leveling. That kind of gear might only be available once you’re in Northrend, though, so don’t jump into Destro too soon or you’ll regret it. Make sure to take talents that improve mana efficiency and allow you to avoid damage, as Destruction has problems in both of these areas.
