The modern magical city-state of Dalaran, constructed from the ruins of the old demolished city by Lord
Garithos and a companion of powerful wizards called the Kirin Tor. Their beloved city was quickly rebuilt and encased it in a bubble that distorts time and space to make it impenetrable to any further attack.
With the threat of the insane Malygos and the Blue Dragonflight looming, the Kirin Tor under the leadership of Rhonin have hastily used tremendous magical power to transport Dalaran to levitate just north of the Dragonblight, in Crystalsong Forest. Deciding to put aside their differences with the Horde with persuasion from Jaina, the works of Antonidas on the orcs and relations with the reformed Blood (High) Elves, Dalaran will serve as a major stronghold for assaults on the Nexus and even Icecrown itself.
As many people are asking how to get to this magical city, we’ll summarize the steps listed in WOW wiki:
There are several ways to get to Dalaran:
- Mages need to talk to the human archmage Modera or bloodelf Aerteas in Dragonblight and pick up the quest [73] Attunement to Dalaran in order to learn the Dalaran teleportation spell available at level 71.
- Mages can learn a portal to Dalaran at 74 from the portal trainer. This allows anyone to get to Dalaran
- Anyone who is at least level 74 can complete [74] The Magical Kingdom of Dalaran from either Magister Dath’omere at Valiance Keep, Borean Tundra, Image of Archmage Aethas Sunreaverω τ α at Agmar’s Hammer, Dragonblight or Image of Archmage Modera at Stars’ Rest, Dragonblight. Compleation of this quest will grant a one time portal to Dalaran.
- Once in Dalaran (via the quest at 74 or via a Mage portal or a Warlock summon), [74] Learning to Leave and Return: the Magical Way can be obtained (provided you’re at least level 70?) which “attunes” you to Dalaran, and you can return any time via the Teleport to Dalaran Crystal from Crystalsong Forest.
- Someone already in Dalaran can group-invite you for PvP at the city’s Battlemasters. After you leave the battleground you will spawn in the floating city. However, the inviting player has to be of the same level range for the specific battleground pool as you, or you won’t get the group-invite.

Ok. You got in, but how do you get out?
- You can use the flight path located on Krasus’ Landing
- You can launch your own flying mount from Krasus’ Landing (you cannot fly elsewhere in the city, if you try and fly over the city, you are warned, and then are dismounted, you float to safety with a parachute)
- You can use one of the portals to major cities, or the portal to the Caverns of Time (located in The Violet Citadel)
- You can exit through a sewer pipe – there’s a long drop – so launch out using your flying mount (although someone did say a parachute would open before you hit the ground – I tested this and think I chickened out and pressed my druid flight form just as the parachute was appearing – it left it a bit late.

it sucks none of any mages in my realm that nice enough to port to dalaran.
So, I found the sewer exit and jumped….and fell…and fell….and no chute.
Np..I just ghosted back to my smooshed body and rez'd, then went on my merry way. At least I escaped!!
So I went to Dalaran via a summon. I got the flight path before I left. I notice on mapwow that there is a connection to Dalaran, is this connection correct? I could then get there quicky.

in Dragonblight and in Stars Rest the Flight Master had a option to go to Dalaran … WOW my 74 Death Kight who does not have BIRD yet now has Hearthstone set in Dalaran …. grand central station …. hope to get more toons connection … easy to fly out or use portals … fun time now for my 5 ALLIANCE toons
Hope to find HORDE backdoor soon …. for my 4 HORDE toons …
Another way: die underneath Dalaran. When you reappear you can fly up to the city (as a ghost) by pressing "space bar". However, you lose flight over the city, so make sure you are high enough up to coast over the walls before losing flight.
The hard part after this: how to get back out of the city. You can't use the teleport crystal while dead. You can't fly back over the walls. You have to go down into the sewers and find the one that lets you drop back down under the city.
Not highly recommended. But it was the first way I saw the city.
So with Contrite's explination , can u not die – Fly to city – and then use the spirit guide to rez ur body?.
so where are the other portals to major cities?
If u try to res in Dalaran your body is revived BELOW Dalaran, i.e. u can't use the spirit guide in Dalaran to rez in Dalaran

I know this is more than a year old but for anyone searching for the answer to this question… another site had a posting that works like a charm and you don't have to try to get another player's help.
Die in Crystalsong Forrest or the Storm Peaks. As a ghost you get a ghostly flying mount. Use spacebar (default) to zoom up higher than the city. Fly over the city and your mount dissappears because it is a no-fly zone. You drop into the city. Exit WoW. Restart game. There is a spirit healer at the Violet Citadel. Rez. You are there
Just got my 68 toon to dalaran pretty easily, once I hit 68 I bought cold weather flying on my main and mailed it to the toon I wanted to get into dala, then get the blimp to northrend and just fly into dalaran at 68

They actually showed how they did it, and used footage from the webcams, showing kids who were clearly unaware.
p.s. – character race/classes which travel dead as wisps will not see a crystal gryphon appear when they enter crystalsong forest, but you WILL hear a 'whump' sound and discover that your wisp can now fly directly up.
To get anyone to Dalaran, go to Northrend by boat, die (get killed), run to Crystalsong Forest as a ghost (aim for center of Northrend), fly up, just barely clearing wall using the crystal gryphon you got when you entered crystalsong forest. Go to Violet Citadel (if Alliance) and near the entrance on the right, is a spirit healer. IMPORTANT! Log out and back in BEFORE re-rezzing at the spirit healer so you will rez inside Dalaran. Go find the inn, set your hearthstone to Dalaran, then go to the Silver Enclave and find the portals for Alliance or braziers for Horde and use them to portal instantly and free to any of the major cities in WoW. You can only use the friendly portals, of course. i.e. portals for Alliance, or braziers for Horde. Note: the log out & in and rez at spirit healer works anywhere for traveling while dead. The re-log makes the server forget where you really died, so you rez at the local healer.
Enjoy – Now you can hearthstone to Dalaran and then portal to major cities very quickly and free.

thanks for that very creative tip to go to Dalaran. Unfortunately it doesn't work with patch 4.0.1. All is ok and like u describe, but even after log out and back in b4 re-rezzing you are re-rezzed at the place where you died
