Shadow priests are specialization of the priest main class. However they have put majority of their talents in the Shadow tree. The down side of being a shadow priest is the lack of healing abilities unlike the Holy and the Discipline ones. But they are considered formidable opponents with regards to PvP with high DPS. They have many skills like silencing, misery debuff and reducing enemy’s healing. Thus they can be a good support as well other than being one of the damagers.
Cataclysm will definitely bring some changes with regards to the shadow priest talent. One of which is phasing out the spirit tap ability. Nonetheless the improved spirit tap is still unchanged. This won’t affect your spell power but will have a great impact on your hit. This in addition also increases your spell hit rating by 4/8/12/16/20% of your spirit. Dark thoughts would be the replacement of the Spirit Tap. This talent will reduce the pushback effects caused by damaging attacks up to 35/70%. You can utilize its benefit when a shadow priest is in it improved shadow form. Pushback prevention is also a part of the improved shadow form’s new tooltip.
Shadow form will be simplified to its fullest. You can actually get up to 15% damage buff yet still keep your mitigation buff. However we are still not allowed to cast holy spells.
