If you decide to create a DK you will soon realize all its potentials and will definitely be fun for you to level one up. A Death Knight could be a melee dpser and a tank and is the only class that has runic power which he uses for his skills. A DK wears plate and can use either two one-handed weapons or a two-handed weapon. Wearing a shield is not a possibility for this class.

Blacksmithing and Mining

Blacksmithing and Mining are suggested as the primary professions for the Death Knights as they wear plate just like the Warriors. Death Knights are able to craft useful items and goodies like armor pieces, weapons, and buckles with Blacksmithing. Buckles are nice because they give a nice boost to your char’s stats. You ought to buy a Blacksmithing Hammer and find the nearest forge by starting leveling with Blacksmithing as your primary profession. However, Blacksmithing divides into two sub branches, namely Weapon smith or Armor smith at some point a player can choose one of them. If you decide on playing PVE and grinding, Alchemy and Herbalism are always two nice and useful professions also. You will get Life Blood as a healing buff that can heal you for 2000 over 5 seconds. Being more PVP based is not as much as good for you. The new profession like Inscription is useful and profitable enough due to the Decks, Glyphs, and Scrolls that you make. For any character Jewelcrafting is pretty useful and since only the Jewelcrafters can do socket some gems into their gear are always in a great demand.

With the release of the WoTLK in mid November 2008, a new class, The Death Knight, was introduced. The Death Knights are WoW’s first Hero Class. What this ‘Hero Class’ exactly means is unknown because they have not proven to be very different then other classes except for the facts that you need to have a level 55 or higher level character to create a Death Knight, that the Death Knight will start as a level 55 upon being created and that the Death Knight uses Runic Power to be able to use his abilities.

Once you create a Death Knight you will enter the game as a level 55 character that is loyal to Arthas the Lich King. You will start fully equipped with green gear and 4, 12 slot bags and 20 silver in Acherus – The Ebon Hold which can be found in the Eastern Plaguelands. As you start questing near The Ebon Hold you will be rewarded talent points and blue item and once you reach level 57 or so you will have the regular amount of talent points for that level and full blue gear.

I will not take away the fun by explaining the quest chain but I can tell you that the quest chain is cool and rewarding. You can reach level 58 in just an hour or two by doing the quests around The Ebon Hold so even if you do not intend to play a Death Knight it is nice to at least pick up some cool lore. Once you hit 58 you are able to go to the Outlands though and you know that the leveling there isn’t time-consuming, so who knows; even if you didn’t plan to play a Death Knight, you might still get stuck playing one because it is a cool class.

A Death Knight is a melee class that can wear most of the melee weapons. One can equip two one-handed weapons or choose for one two-handed weapon. He can serve as a melee damage dealer or as a tank. A Death Knight however, cannot equip a Shield. They are able to wear plate armor and are able to get a very high parry chance.

As said earlier, the Death Knight uses Runic Power as a melee fighter for his special abilities. He can use 6 runes by using certain abilities. Having a cooldown, these runes can give some Runic Power to the Death Knight. This Runic Power can be employed in using other special abilities that do not place a rune on cooldown, but cost merely Runic Power.

“The Emblazoned Runeblade” is one of the first quests that you will happen to meet. You will get the Runeforging ability with this quest. This ability is also helpful in forging a rune on the DK’s weapons.

Frost, Blood, and Unholy are the three talent trees of the Death Knight. Each tree is advantageous in its own way. However, it is up to the player, whether to use the talent tree separately or in combination.

The merits of a Death Knight are that it is very easy to start him at level 55 that continues the fight as both the tank and dps for the longer period. They can have a Ghoul and Gargoyle pet due to their cool look. One cannot get groups and raids to play a Death Knight, which is the only demerit of this game.

Initially, when you create your Death Knight, you will find that you have no talent points until now. This is not nice about a level 55 character, but you need not to give up hopes, since there are the quests in and around the Ebon Hold with which you can gain the talent points. I had a friend craft for me the Cobalt set, made entirely out of cobalt bars and all equipped at Level 70. This kind of gear is perfect for tanking during Instance runs, since they give out decent stamina bonuses.

From here on, you can pretty much do any quest to get decent gear for your death knight once you’re in Northrend. Just be sure to do the quests that you can do in a short amount of time with the best reward possible.

An Example of Melee

It is because you need to avoid high damage or even death itself. The mob will crush you into pieces so be careful.

Important points you need to remember:

• Ranged characters pull off the tank when they have done 130% more threat than the tank.
• Melee characters pull off once they have achieved only 110% of the tank’s threat.
• When you pull an aggro as your previous self, either mage or hunter, you can bubble, slow the mob, feign, trap it or fear it.
• The mob will do everything to crush you when you are a melee character.
• Melee is extremely vulnerable to not only aggro, but also AoE effects

If you suffer from bad damages, the problem is your healer might put you at the end of the queue as it always does to melee characters. It is not always like this but most healers will put other characters in priority before melee so whether it is unfair or not, you be the judge. However, when it comes to your melee characters, it is advisable not to sustain bad damages or else you will need a very long time to heal.
