There’s been buzz around a Warcraft movie for some years now. Way back in 2006 Blizzard first spilled the beans about the plans of making a movie.
All these years we’ve been eagerly waiting while Blizzard been searching for a partner in the movie industry that is good enough to take on a project like this. As Blizzard always delivers top notch quality with their products, they surely expect the movie to do so as well and not fall in the trap of the common crap PC game movies that’s been released over the years.
Now Blizzard Entertainment has finally announced the names of the ones they have selected for this honorable task:
For Director, Sam Raimi happily accepted the task of making World of Warcraft come live on the big screen. Sam has a great history of quality films under his belt, like “Spiderman”, “Army of Darkness”, “Quick and the Dead” and most lately “Drag me to Hell”.
The choice of producer for the movie is the person who produced one of the greatest films in recent history, The Dark Knight. His name is Charles Roven and I’m sure he’ll make the fans love the movie version of World of Warcraft.
The film will fall under Legendary Pictures co-production and co-financing deal with Warner Bros. Pictures, a unit of Time Warner inc. The studio Legendare Pictures has made films like 300, The dark Knight and Superman Returns so they sure are capable of doing wonders.
If Blizzard and Legendary Pictures get what they want, this movie will turn out to be an epic film like Lord of the Rings or even Star Wars. That would certainly be nice and please the millions of fans waiting to see this game come alive on the big screen.
No cast and release date information has yet been revealed but hopefully it won’t take years before it’s possible to watch the lands of Azeroth in a theater near you.
The question is in what timeframe of World of Warcraft will it set and it which part of Azeroth? Will there be one movie or a series like Lord of the ring (there’s certainly enough story in wow to make 3 movies). What famous wow characters will be included in the story and how will it end?
The questions are endless and the expectations even greater. I know how I would do it, what about you?
